Amanda Jane Pleaters

The differance between the 24-row Regular Amanda Jane Pleater and the 24-row Super Amanda Jane Pleater is the additional needle placed in between the 3/8" spaced needles on the Regular Amanda Jane Pleater, thus creating a total of 47 needles in the Super Amanda Jane Pleater.

The Super Amanda Jane Pleater is intended to be used with fabrics that do not have body, such as flannels, light weight wools, silk, and the like to provide pleat stability.  When pleating with fabrics with body such as batistes, broadcloths, velveteen, lightweight cordoroy, pima cotton, and more, always remove the extra added needle in between the 3/8" spaced needles.  Not removing the extra needle on fabrics with body can and probably will cause the needles to break.

Note to those new to pleating:  unlike sewing machine needles where one can buy a needle for every fabric from silk to canvas, pleaters have only one needle.  That one needle is very delicate, designed and tested with pre-washed Imperial Batiste fabric.  Other fabrics can be pleated but on a test-by-test basis.  ALWAYS pre-wash all fabrics before pleating to remove the sizing; not removing the sizing will and can cause the needles to break.

We suggest the Pleater Manual by Sarah Douglas for 72-pages of pleating instructions.
